As many of you know, TUNA-the-book sold out in June. The publisher ordered a new print run, but the publishing industry has been experiencing lots of delays—from backlogs at printers to delivery issues.
ANYWAY, all of that is now a moot point, because TUNA is back in stock in the United States and Canada (books are en route to the UK and Europe) 🎉🎉🎉. You can now, once again, help to heal the hearts of grieving pet parents.
Where to Buy the TUNA Book
Sounds True (publisher)
The book is not yet restocked at Waterstones, but you can sign up for an alert as soon as it arrives.
And, of course, you can always buy the book or request it from your favourite indie bookstore!
The “Buy Two, Give Two” Approach
TUNA was originally conceived as a gift book for two reasons:
Because people who are grieving their pets find comfort when someone else understands their grief and pain.
To share the joy of giving
My hope is that people will give recipients two copies: one to keep, and one to pay it forward to someone else who is grieving an animal friend.
Given the rising cost of, well, everything, this may not be feasible for you—and no worries (I understand financial constraints all too well). But if you are able, please consider this ‘pay it forward’ approach.
Blurb from a bestselling author
Last year, I sent out a newsletter raving about THE OTHER FAMILY DOCTOR, by Karen Fine, DVM. I met Karen in 2018, when I interviewed her for an article commissioned by the Boston Globe. Until I was searching through images for this newsletter, I’d forgotten she blurbed TUNA. (And likewise, if you buy her book, you’ll see my name on the back with a heartfelt endorsement.)
Ask your cat for advice
If you’re someone who’s into Oracle decks, or if you enjoyed Magic 8-balls as a kid, you might enjoy this unique cat-themed deck created by Wendy Miller of Card to Believe. You ask a question and draw a card with a response. This is a great present for friends, colleagues or family (or all three!).
Zoom background for phone
This is another image I’d completely forgotten about, until I began looking through old folders today. Francis drew this in 2019 as a free download. Because it’s square, I didn’t think it could be used for Zoom, but maybe for background? In any case, I thought you might enjoy this. I felt a sharp pang of missing Francis when I saw this (for those who don’t know, he passed away in early 2021).
If you’re grieving the loss of an animal friend right now, please be gentle with yourself. If you have a loved one who is grieving, please share TUNA and my writings/podcasts with them.
Warmly,
Hooray! A wonderful book and the most thoughtful gift for a grieving cat parent.
